The Trafford and Stockport College Group is proud to be one of the hosts for this year’s WorldSkills UK National Finals, taking place across venues in Greater Manchester from November 18-22.
The event returns to the region as part of WorldSkills UK’s commitment to engaging young people and employers nationwide.
The prestigious competition, showcasing world-class talent across 49 skills from Additive Manufacturing and Industrial Robotics to Cooking and Hairdressing, sees 400 of the nation’s top students and apprentices demonstrate their expertise.
It also features Foundation competitions, empowering entry-level and Level 1 students with skills for work and independence in areas like Horticulture, IT Software, and Health and Social Care.
Kerris Boulton, a former WorldSkills UK competitor and Trafford College alumni, reflected on her journey: “Taking part in WorldSkills UK in 2018 was a life-changing experience and I was absolutely delighted to place second in the finals. My advice to students is to take every opportunity that comes your way—WorldSkills is a fantastic platform to challenge yourself and grow.”
Six students from Trafford and Stockport College Group earned their places in this year’s finals, including Foundation Level 1 student Adam Montgomery, who competes in Restaurant Services.
He said: “The competition has given me an opportunity to test my skills and showcase what I’ve learned in college.”
James Scott, Principal and CEO of the Trafford and Stockport College Group, added: “These competitions highlight the immense talent within technical education and help raise its profile. It’s fitting that Greater Manchester is hosting the finals, with our colleges, universities, and employers providing a platform for these talented individuals.”
The event culminates with an awards ceremony at Manchester’s prestigious Bridgewater Hall on Friday, November 22.
