Trafford and Stockport College Group launches ambitious strategic plan

On Monday this week the Trafford and Stockport College Group (TSCG) proudly unveiled its ambitious new strategic plan.

The launch, at the Group’s Stockport campus, brought together an influential audience of local employers, students and key stakeholers, all united in their commitment to shaping the future of skills and education in Greater Manchester.

The strategic plan sets out an ambitious five-year vision aimed at equipping the communities we serve with the skills needed to succeed in tomorrow’s world.

Through collaboration, innovation, and a commitment to excellence, senior leaders outlined the Group’s determination to transform education and empower students for success.

Following a networking lunch, our Principal and CEO James Scott kicked off the formal proceedings by introducing TSCG’s six key priorities, known as the ‘BIG 6’:

1. Delivering a curriculum that meets future demands.

2. Establishing TSCG as the employer of choice.

3. Enhancing the student experience.

4. Ensuring financial stability.

5. Driving innovation.

6. Providing civic leadership.

The focus then shifted on to our students, with a session titled ‘The Future of Skills’, in which learners from a range of pathways – including T Levels, A Levels, apprenticeships, vocational training, and adult education – shared their personal journeys, highlighting the college’s transformative impact on their lives and aspirations.

Next up was a ‘Partners with Purpose’ session, giving the opportunity for stakeholders to explore practical ways to collaborate and drive meaningful change in education, industry, and the wider community. The session emphasised the importance of partnerships in supporting TSCG’s priorities and achieving long-lasting outcomes.

Sharon Seville, Director of First Executive Recruitment and Stockport Local President for Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce, was excited about the strategic focus of the Group and what this meant for the local communities.

She said: “The college group is a pipeline for talent coming into businesses, so this Strategic Plan is really important because what we’re trying to do is make sure that if there are any issues we can address them and if there are challenges, we’re able to deal with them. We can understand what the business community is looking for we can then work out a curriculum around what those businesses are looking for.”

Iqra Yousef, who is studying A Levels at Cheadle College, attended the event. “I’m enjoying my time at college because there’s a balance of subjects and extra-curricular activities,” she said.

The event concluded with a call to action for attendees to become advocates for further education, champions for the industry, and partners in transforming lives.

A second strategic event is scheduled to take place on 29th January at the Altrincham Campus, where the conversation will continue with more key stakeholders.
