Our Green College

Sustainability is embedded in everything we do; from the way we teach to how we run our campuses.

Our commitment to a greener future

We have set ambitious goals in our sustainability strategy (2022–2027) to reduce our environmental impact and inspire our students, staff, and wider community to live and work more sustainably. Whether it’s cutting carbon emissions, improving energy efficiency, or embedding sustainability into our courses, we’re taking action to create real change.

Leading the way with green innovation

Our green technologies hub, launched in February 2024, gives students hands-on experience with the latest developments in renewable energy and sustainability, ensuring they are prepared for the green jobs of the future.

With green skills and renewable hubs based in Stockport and Trafford, we are supporting the region’s ambition to reach net zero by 2038 and across the UK by 2050.

Students are at the heart of our sustainability efforts. Through initiatives like the green college assembly, they play an active role in shaping more sustainable campuses and communities.

What's Next

There is always more to do, and we are focused on the next steps to further reduce our environmental impact:

Expanding the use of solar power across campuses to generate clean energy and cut emissions

Encouraging sustainable travel with improved bike storage, incentives for green commuting, and promoting public transport options

Ensuring future campus developments meet high environmental standards, including pursuing BREEAM certification for new buildings

Reducing waste through expanded recycling and composting programmes to minimise landfill contributions

Get involved

Sustainability is a shared responsibility, and we encourage students, staff, and the wider community to be part of the journey. Whether through student-led eco projects, volunteering opportunities, or making sustainable choices every day, small actions add up to a big impact.

By working together, we can make Trafford and Stockport College Group a leader in sustainability and create a positive future for our communities and the environment.
