National Supported Internship Day: Let’s take a look at TSCG’s Student Success Stories!

TSCG is marking National Supported Internship Day by celebrating our committed students and the employer partners who help make impactful work placements possible.

Supported Internships play a crucial role in helping young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) take their next steps towards the world of work.

This year, our interns have gained real-life experience in roles ranging from domestic services and customer service to administration, sanitisation and stores work.

Their placements have included Altrincham Golf Club, Trafford College Canteen, The Headway Charity, Bidvest Noonan and the British Heart Foundation.

Our Cheadle Campus: A Hub for SEND Success

A standout feature in supporting our SEND learners is our new Cheadle College campus, which opened last year and offers environments which are tailored to a diverse range of needs and learning styles.

Key features at the campus include specialist spaces for Choices learners, specific provision for SEND and high-needs students, a sensory room, dedicated garden and outdoor learning areas, and a Learning Resource Centre with social zones designed for wellbeing and inclusion.

Last month, to showcase the importance of this work, TSCG’s Assistant Principal for Student Support, Safeguarding & Inclusion Katie Goodwin welcomed Alasdaire Duerden from the Department for Education to discuss the proposed SEND reforms, Post 16 inclusion, and the excellent progress across our college group.

Katie praised the impact of Supported Internships, “They provide a crucial stepping stone for EHCP learners as they begin their journey into employment, offering access to real workplaces with structured support and inclusive employers.”

She also highlighted our strong partnerships with major employers including Trafford Council, Trafford General, Stepping Hill Hospital, Amazon and HMRC.iences have given our students a deeper understanding of the aviation industry, strengthened their skills, and inspired them to think about the exciting career paths ahead.

Standout Moments from Our Student Placements

This week, students on placement at Stepping Hill Hospital organised a donation drive and Easter raffle for the NHS charity.

Over several weeks, they collected donations, prepared materials and coordinated the event, transforming Pinewood House Education Centre into a busy planning hub.

Meanwhile, a group of interns at HMRC have successfully completed their programme. During their Employment Planning Meetings, each student shared their progress with staff, mentors and family members.

HMRC colleagues praised the professionalism of the programme and the dedicated support from staff.

Caroline Morgan, Assistant Contract Mobilisation Manager at HMRC said, “Seeing the progression of the interns to a point where each and every one of them had the confidence to stand up and present in front of multiple people about their experience was inspiring. Not only seeing what this means to the interns but also to some of their families, I think had us all reaching for the tissues!”
