Students at the Trafford and Stockport College Group celebrate GCSE excellence

Students at the Trafford and Stockport College Group are celebrating impressive GCSE results. Overall pass rate results (all ages) included 96% for English and 94% for maths, with 26% achieving 9-4 for English and 23% for maths, 5% above the national picture.

James Scott, Principal and CEO of Trafford and Stockport College Group, commented:

“I would like to congratulate all our students receiving their GCSE results. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of them for their determination, resilience, and commitment to their studies, which have led to the impressive outcomes today.

These grades are not just a reflection of the students’ individual effort, but also the unwavering support and dedication of our entire college community. We work relentlessly to ensure that every student, regardless of background or starting point, is given the opportunity to reach their full potential.

I would like to express my gratitude and respect to our talented and passionate teaching colleagues who have been instrumental in helping guide these students, offering encouragement, expertise, and inspiration throughout their journey.

This year, we had nearly an additional 700 entries for these exams across the College Group compared to the previous. To respond to such an unprecedented situation is also a reflection of our broader responsiveness to policy challenges and a commitment to nurturing a supportive and inclusive environment where students can thrive.

I’d also like to recognise the fantastic outcomes for our students who undertook GCSEs as a full-time study programme. Over the years, this unique programme at our college has gone from strength to strength and is hugely popular with young people who just want to focus on re-taking a suite of GCSEs, and with young people who are relatively new to the United Kingdom. On this programme our overall results include a 99% pass rate for maths and a 100% pass rate for English, with 69% of maths students achieving the higher grades (9-4) and 55% for English. Students also take a range of other GCSE options alongside maths and English with an overall pass ate of 99% and a higher grade pass rate of 71%.

I am delighted that many of these students will now continue with their Further Education studies across our five colleges, where they will continue to benefit from the same high standards of teaching and support. I wish them every success as they take the next steps in their educational journey and beyond.”

Full time GCSE student, Nimitha Gamage, is one of the learners celebrating his GCSE results today having achieved an 8 in Physics, 7 in maths, 7 in Chemistry and a 5 in English.

Nimitha says “I have loved learning here. I have met lots of friends and my tutors have been really supportive and provided lots of support and resources”.

Nimitha’s longer-term plan is to study Aerospace Engineering at university in the form of a degree apprenticeship and he is now progressing onto study A Levels at Trafford College this September.
