Success for Students on the One Stockport Health and Social Care Career Academy

The first cohort of learners from the One Stockport Health and Social Care Career Academy is already celebrating impressive early achievements, with seven learners securing job offers after completing the three week programme.

Delivered by the Trafford & Stockport College Group in partnership with Stockport Council and a range of local employers, the Academy was created to strengthen the regional care workforce. It provides a clear, supportive, and accessible pathway into rewarding health and social care careers across Greater Manchester.

A total of 16 learners completed the programme, which included accredited training, personalised employment support and ‘dating style’ interview opportunities with employers across the sector.

Gareth Burrows, Director of Curriculum for Industry Partnership & Skills at Trafford & Stockport College Group says, “The Health and Social Care Academy is already delivering on its promise, connecting adults to meaningful careers, responding directly to employer needs, and strengthening the future workforce across Stockport and the wider Greater Manchester region.

By creating a clear and supported pathway into the sector, we are helping to tackle critical skills shortages and build a sustainable pipeline of skilled, compassionate professionals.”

Employer involvement has been strong throughout, with eight local organisations engaging in interviews and recruitment activity.

A standout moment came when five learners secured roles before the programme had even ended.

Four job offers were made on the day, including one with Turning Point, followed by two additional offers the following week, bringing the total to seven so far.

Cllr FosterGrime, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Adult Social Care at Stockport Council said,“Seeing the first cohort of the One Stockport Health and Social Care Career Academy graduate is a real milestone for our borough. I am delighted that so many of the individuals have already received job offers or have secured interviews in the sector.

It’s a powerful example of what can be achieved when we invest in local talent and work closely with our partners to support pathways into vital health and social care roles. I’m proud of what this group has achieved and excited to see the difference they will make in our communities.”
