Twinning is winning for student brothers Moaz and Hammad

Identical twin brothers, Moaz and Hammad Jabeen, have always shared a special bond, and their academic journey in the UK has only strengthened that connection.

After relocating from Pakistan to the UK in October 2021, the twins embarked on an educational path together and last week were each awarded D*D*D in their Level 3 Information Technology course at Stockport College. Continuing their studies together, they will now progress to Level 4 in Cyber Security at our University Centre.

Education has always been a priority for Moaz and Hammad. The day after they arrived in the UK, they immediately enrolled on the Fast Track Express GCSE programme for English and Maths at Trafford College – an intensive six-month programme of study.

Following this, the brothers moved on to Stockport College, where they enrolled on a BTEC Level 3 IT course and remarkably both achieved identical top-tier grades.

Moaz commented: “We have always been extremely close and champion each other’s efforts, so to receive the same grades was just incredible. We also owe a lot to our IT tutor Leonardo Casillas, who was phenomenal.”

While remaining close is important to them, both twins have carved out their own leadership roles within the college community. Moaz took the lead in event planning, successfully organising MACFEST at Stockport College, while Hammad served as the student leader, representing his peers with dedication.

Their academic success was equally matched by their involvement in extracurricular activities. Moaz’s fiction writing was selected for publication by the Association of College in 2023, representing hundreds of students across England and Wales. Hammad, meanwhile, won ‘Article of the Year’ for his outstanding contributions to the student newsletter, College Extra.

Their shared journey continued as they represented Stockport College in the WorldSkills UK Cybersecurity National Competition, where their teamwork and expertise in the field were showcased. Hammad was part of the team which secured second place in the Greater Manchester College Skills Competition, once again representing Stockport College.

Reflecting on their journey, Moaz said: “Hammad and I have always pushed each other to do our best. Being able to share these experiences together has been a huge motivation. We are grateful for the support we’ve received from the college, and we’re excited to continue this journey into Cyber Security.”

Their ultimate goal is to secure careers that allow them to make a significant impact in this critical industry.

Saqib Brook, Head of Academic Studies (Altrincham), who was instrumental in Moaz and Hammad’s journey from the outset, praised the twins: “Moaz and Hammad’s story is an inspiring example of how a strong bond and shared passion can lead to exceptional achievements. Their commitment, both to their studies and their roles in the college community, is a testament to their dedication and drive. We wish them every success as they embark on their Cyber Security studies with us.”
