Three Talented Writers Celebrated in TSCG’s World Book Day Creative Writing Competition

TSCG marked World Book Day with a celebration at The Hive on our Stretford Campus, bringing colleagues and learners together to inspire a love of reading, writing and creativity as part of the National Year of Reading.

The event followed a threeweek Creative Writing Course led by Hannah Idriss from our Community Learning Team, where learners developed their own 500word stories before entering them into TSCG’s World Book Day Creative Writing Competition.

Hosted by Adult and Community Learning Leader Sarah Roditis, attendees heard practical writing tips before guest speaker Ian RudolferArnold, Lecturer in ESOL, gave an inside look into his creative story idea and the personal inspiration behind one of his books.

Three standout entries were recognised, Emma RoyWilliams took first place with The Art of Mischief, followed by Veronica Mayre with Dolly’s Day Dreams, and Sacia Radlin in third place with My Favourite Memories, an emotional story about the day her sister was born.

Reflecting on the event, Sarah said: “The celebration of reading and writing on World Book Day was an opportunity to recognise the creative talents of our adult learners and help to highlight the importance of reading for pleasure during National Year of Reading.

Research has shown that reading helps writing skills and it was encouraging to see so many community learners share their personal stories in our creative writing competition.

Congratulations to all our winners!”.

The celebration really showed how powerful storytelling is at TSCG, it brings people together, boosts confidence, and brings out people’s creativity.
