Celebratory lunch held for WorldSkills UK finalists

Six students from the Trafford and Stockport College Group attended a celebratory lunch in recognition of their achievement in reaching the national finals of the WorldSkills UK competition.

These talented individuals were honoured for their dedication and hard work, which has earned them the opportunity to represent the college on a national stage in November.

During the lunch, the students, alongside James Scott, Principal/Chief Executive Officer of the group, and their tutors, reflected on the journey leading up to the finals and the challenges they overcame in previous rounds.

Adam Montgomery, a Foundation Level 2 student in Restaurant Services, shared his excitement about taking part in the competition.

“I’m more excited than nervous, which is good. I’m hoping for good things.”

To prepare for the initial stage of the competition, Adam had to take part in an online questionnaire and set up a fine dining table set up for two in just 30 minutes. In the upcoming final in November, he will also need to prepare a cocktail within a 20-minute time limit.

“I have had a lot of support from my tutors throughout the process, which gives me the confidence to perform well on the national stage next month.”

Health and Social Care Level 3 student Olivia Shore also expressed a mix of excitement and nerves as she prepares for the final.

“I’m so excited and nervous, but I have so many people supporting me that I can’t help but be excited for the finals,” she said. Olivia has been receiving valuable support from her tutors, who have provided resources to enhance her knowledge of health and social care in preparation for the final.

Principal James Scott praised the students for their achievements, saying: “We are incredibly proud of these six students. Their hard work, dedication, and passion have brought them to this point, and we are confident they will continue to excel in the competition and in their studies.

“The WorldSkills competition offers an invaluable opportunity for our students to demonstrate their skills on a national stage, and we are delighted to see them representing Trafford and Stockport College Group with such pride. We wish them the best of luck in the finals.”

For the third year in a row, the college group has had the highest number of registrations for the WorldSkills UK competition than any other college in the country.

Last year, the group stood out by receiving more medals than any other English college, and is once again positioned to excel at this prestigious event.

The six students representing the Trafford and Stockport College Group include:

  • Adam Montgomery (Foundation Skills: Restaurant Services)
  • Erin Carpenter (Beauty Therapy Practitioner)
  • Olivia Shore (Health and Social Care)
  • Amy-Louise Chisnall, Nathan Williams, and Aidian Renshaw (Foundation Skills: Enterprise)

The national finals will take place from 19th to 22nd November, and the college group is proud to be one of the hosts for this year’s competition.
