Leading partner for Greater Manchester’s Local Skills Improvement Plan

At Trafford & Stockport College Group, our curriculum is shaped by what employers, the region, and the wider economy needs now and in the future – making sure that every student gets the skills, confidence and opportunities they need for brilliant futures.

Our strong links with strategic partners means we can offer real world experience to our students – ensuring that the workforce coming through our colleges is prepared for the challenges of tomorrow.

Across the Group, we work with over 800 employers, including Sharp, Essity and Wilmott Dixon – connecting students to real opportunities and helping businesses to access the talent they need.

And our commitment to innovation is transforming our campuses, with more than £52 million invested across sites in Stockport and Cheadle, demonstrating our commitment to innovation in technology, facilities and skills delivery.

Our commitment to skills excellence provides our students with the skills they need for brilliant futures, and advances our vision to lead the way for a city region where everyone has the education and skills to succeed in life and work.

In 2025, we had the most students registered in Greater Manchester for the fifth year running. Five of our students reached the WorldSkills UK National Finals. WorldSkills celebrates excellence in technical and vocational skills – embedding world-class training to help drive investment, jobs and economic growth. Through competitions and training programmes, it raises skill standards and prepares young people for successful futures.

Finley Woodward, a Hospitality student at Trafford College, impressed judges  with a movie-themed table inspired by Mamma Mia! Isabelle Burgess, studying Media Make-up, was the only student from the North West to reach the national finals in SFX Makeup and Hair for Film and TV. And Cheadle College students, Adam Massey and John-Paul Johnson, were in the Foundation Skills: Enterprise category, with a project focused on recycling crisp packets into survival blankets for homeless people, a powerful idea combining sustainability with social impact.

Competitions like WorldSkills UK play a vital role in preparing young people for their future careers, and I couldn’t be prouder of the way our students are representing Trafford and Stockport College Group on a national stage. Their talent, creativity, and commitment is really inspiring and they’ve all pushed themselves far beyond the classroom to get to this point.” James Scott, Principal and CEO of Trafford and Stockport College Group
